1832: Longines was founded in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, by Auguste Agassiz. Originally, the company operated under the name Raiguel Jeune & Cie, a comptoir d'établissage, assembling watches from parts made by local craftsmen.

Agassiz later took full control, and the company became known as Agassiz & Compagnie.

The company began exporting to North America early on, gaining an international presence.
