What made it important?

Casio had originally become known for electronic calculators. In the early 1970s, the company applied its electronic technology to watchmaking. The result was the Casiotron, which became one of the earliest commercially successful Casio watches.

One particularly interesting feature was its automatic calendar system. Rather than simply displaying the time, the Casiotron could account for the different lengths of months, making it an important early example of a multifunction electronic watch.
